In Sixth Grade Art, at the beginning of the artistic journey, students visit different places and cultures in the world through their art forms. These two works were made by students after learning about Aboriginal Australian art traditions, and how they feature pattern and rhythm!
Eighth Grade Watercolor Paintings/Projects
Eighth Grade Art
Eighth grade art is the upper limit of middle school art in our district. Students build upon the skills they have been using since sixth grade. In the photo above, you can see an example of a photograph that was taken in a simple wooden box camera. One of the units the eigth graders do is on the role of technology in the arts, with an emphasis on how photography is changing with technology.
eighth grade sculpting project
As well as photography, drawing, and painting, eighth graders also work on three dimensional works. Here are some students who are ready to get into sculpting with paper mache. This is an oldie, but you can see how serious we are around here.
High School Art- ART I , Intro to Art
Here are three excellent examples of Intro to Art student's responses to learning subtractive sculpture. They studied additive and subtractive sculpture methods and artworks and materials. They completed a reading about English sculptor Henry Moore. These were carved out of a block of damp stoneware clay. Each sculpture started as a cube. Does each sculpture have a new form, apart from it's origin? Does each one defeat the cube?
High School Art - Painting Concepts
Here is a spectacular work done by a junior. One of the four regular art classes that is available after Intro to Art is called Painting Concepts. Students will learn painting techniques, different painting media, and of course, they will learn about painting throughout the ages. This portrait was executed in acrylics.
Both the dancers and the chess players are acrylic paintings. They were created to meet the requirements of the Social Realism assignment. Not too shabby for a sophomore (top), and a senior(below)
This is a transparent watercolor painting, also completed in Painting Concepts.
High School Art - Two Dimensional Design Class
In two dimensional design, students explore a variety of two dimensional materials and media. They complete several projects in printmaking, painting, drawing, and graphic design. As well as making artwork, there is also a considerable amount of class time devoted to studying design and composition of artwork.
Posterized painting of a rocker! Rock On!
These paintings are done by the kids after they have used a computer program to reduce the number of values(shades). This painting was originally from a snapshot. It is now 18 x 22". Suitable for any true rocker's wall. By the way, there is no glare on this painting. It was added in.
In style of...
For this lesson, the student's studied a famous artist, and their style. After reading and discussing how the artist sees what they are going to paint, the students came-up with their own compositions through watercolors.
High School Art - Three Dimensional Design
Here is a ceramic lamp that was made by a student in three dimensional design. Three dimensional design is a class in which students design projects based around a theme. Electric nightlight/table lamp was the theme for this project. Three dimensional design offers art to students who enjoy hands-on art.
The Great Wave in the art room
The Art Club, as well as students in each of the high school classes have been working on reproducing a famous artwork. A painting after TheGreat Wave at Kanagawa(1834), by Katsushika Hokusai is developing a strong presence in the room.
HIGH SCHOOL ART CLUB
The high school art club has three goals; to enhance the community, to enhance the school, and to enhance the abilities of the club members. The students have contributed to the school by painting murals within the school and painting teachers names above their doors, and helping-out classes and clubs with the creative work they need to do. The Art club has contributed to the community through mural and seasonal decoration projects. In 2007, the Art Club painted a mural to celebrate the Sesquicentennial Celebration of our city of Kinmundy. The Art Club has also embarked on painting a mural for the Legion Hall in Farina. These works can be seen below.
